A recent survey found that on average, people want 47% of their final working salary as a retirement income. The survey also found that properly planning for retirement and setting a retirement income goal is really important. Those who hadn’t set themselves an income target ended up with an average of £17,500 a year to live on. However, those who use a financial planner saw average income in retirement increase to £20,800. Those who had set a income target and used a financial planner enjoyed an average income of £26,000 a year – a 49% increase compared to those that did neither.
